The High Court was considering a petition filed by the parents of Kripesh and Sarath Lal, two Youth Congress workers in Kasaragod, who were killed last February.
The Kerala High Court on Wednesday slammed police chief Loknath Behera for the delay in handing over the Periya twin murder case to CBI. In a verbal observation, the court stated that the delay in handing over the case following the court order, can amount to negligence of duty. The High Court was considering a petition filed by the parents of Kripesh and Sarath Lal, two Youth Congress workers in Kasaragod, who were killed last February. On September 30, the High Court had ordered to hand over the case to CBI. The court stated that the police chief was taking the matter lightly, according to a report by Malayala Manorama. As per the report, the court also observed the police has not sought more time in the matter nor have they filed any appeal against the court’s decision. The court had earlier too slammed the police force, after finding fault with the probe conducted in the case. It had ordered to hand over the case to CBI after quashing the chargesheet submitted by the police and even called it a ‘callous probe’. The HC on Wednesday said that if necessary, it will call the DGP directly to court. The petition by parents of the deceased had sought contempt of court proceedings to be initiated against the state police chief for not handing over the case to CBI. The court also stated that there are chances the evidences may get tampered with if it is delayed more. Meanwhile, according to reports, CBI advocate told court that though the agency had given a letter regarding handing over the case, to DGP and Kasaragod SP, there was no reply to it. Youth Congress workers, 22-year-old Kripesh and 24-year-old Sharath Lal, were killed after being attacked by three motorcycle-borne men in February. CPI(M) leaders in Kasaragod are the accused in the case. Read: ‘Need not turn Kochi into Singapore; ensure basic amenities’: Kerala HC to local body
