Chemical exposure from air conditioner may have killed 2 Indian kids in Qatar

Death
On Friday, the two children, three-and-half-year-old Rehan Haris and his sister 7-month-old Rida Haris, from Kerala had died after being admitted to hospital.
The cause of deaths of two young children who died in Doha, has been identified as exposure to a chemical substance or insecticide. On Friday, the two children, three-and-half-year-old Rehan Haris and his sister 7-month-old Rida Haris, had died after being admitted to hospital. There are reports that some insecticide was used in a neighbouring apartment to clear off insects and that the children might have inhaled it as it entered through their air conditioner. Their parents had also fallen sick and rushed to hospital along with the children as they had already started vomiting on Friday morning. A press release from the ministry said that epidemiological investigation team and members of health toxicology committee carried out proceedings in the case. The team has visited the apartment and building where the affected family resided, collected the remaining food items and studied the environment. “Based on the preliminary results from review of pathological history and medical examination, a team from emergency management of the Hamad Medical Corporation suspects that the children were exposed to a chemical or insecticide,” says the release. Earlier, the cause of death was suspected as food poisoning. But the Ministry of Public Health has ruled that out as the reason and explained that inhalation of some toxic substance could have led to the deaths. Ruling out the chances of food poisoning, the explanation from the Ministry points out that they had not received any reports of food poisoning through the hotline of the Department of Transitional Disease Control. However, they have informed that all precautionary measures are being taken. The parents Haris and Shameena, were admitted in the critical care unit of Hamad Medical Corporation and are now stated to be out of danger. They hail from Kozhikode district of Kerala and are working as nurses in Doha. As per reports, the mortal remains of the deceased will be buried in Doha after their relatives arrive from Kerala.
