Young actor Shane Nigam, who has been facing a ban from the Kerala Film Producers Association, has landed in soup over some remarks he made at a quick interaction with the media on Monday. Finding the terms he used about the producers offensive, the film bodies – Association of Malayalam Movie Actors (AMMA) and Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) – suspended the talks they have been holding with the producers association on Shane’s behalf. B Unnikrishnan, producer-director and general secretary of FEFKA, has confirmed this to TNM. On Monday, Shane was attending the International Film Festival of Kerala in Thiruvananthapuram and going to watch a film screening when a few mikes popped up before him and the media began asking him questions over his ban and the talks that are going on in his behalf. When someone asked him a question about the ‘manovishamam’ (mental pain) of the producers, Shane replied, ‘Don’t know if the producers have manovishamam or manorogam (mental illness).’ It is this remark that appears to have caused AMMA and FEFKA to withdraw from the talks. Shane had also said, “What happens when you go for a compromise talk (with the producers)? They will make us sit there and not listen to anything we have to say. They will say all that they want to, like a radio. We should obey all that they ask of us. They might express regret in front of the media later. It is not the producer who troubled me this time, but the film's director and cameraman. I also have proof of all this and I am ready to present it anywhere.” Two of Shane’s movies are being screened for the IFFK in the Malayalam Cinema Today category – Kumbalangi Nights, where he played one of the four brothers on whom the film is based, and Ishq, where he played a young lover who faces a moral policing attack on a night he is out with his girlfriend.
